ADNOC and SLB Introduce AI Platform to Boost Production Efficiency and Minimize Downtime
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and SLB have unveiled a cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) platform, named Production System Optimization (AiPSO), designed to enhance production efficiency and reduce operational downtime across ADNOC’s assets. The announcement was made at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) 2025.
The AiPSO platform consolidates millions of real-time data points from ADNOC’s network of wells and processing facilities. Utilizing AI and ADNOC’s proprietary machine learning algorithms, the system enables engineers to identify and resolve production issues within minutes rather than days, optimizing operational performance.
In addition to predictive monitoring, the platform links office and field operations through smart workflows, improving workforce productivity and maximizing well output.
Currently deployed in eight oil and gas fields, AiPSO supports ADNOC’s goal to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company. The company plans to expand the system to all onshore and offshore fields by 2027, reinforcing its leadership in large-scale AI integration within the energy sector.
This launch follows the deployment of Neuron 5, another AI-driven process-optimization system developed with ADNOC’s technology partners. During its pilot phase, Neuron 5 reportedly reduced unplanned shutdowns by up to 50% and extended planned maintenance intervals by approximately 20%, demonstrating the transformative potential of AI in energy operations.
